This Week in Media

This week in media we had to do a presentation to the rest of the class. In the presentation we was presenting our post 16 magazine front cover and contents page. Where I had to talk about why I used the style that I did, why did I use the colours that I did. Then the rest of the group had to give me feedback on how they think it went, what was good about my magazine design and what could be improved.

Feedback:

What went well?
  • Good use of colour- use the Harris Academy Beckenham colours (red, blue)
  • front page set out well. Also the contents page
  • An attractive front cover and contents page
  • Use the same colour for front cover and contents
  • The front cover theme match's contents page
What could be improved?
  • The text used is not big enough on the front page. Increase the size
  • Use more key words and talk about what I learnt from my research
  • Made the text more clearer and larger
  • Make the sell point the main focus and stand out from other subheadings
My Conclusion:

I think that the feedback that I was given by my class mates was helpful, as they noticed the areas where I went wrong and the way I could improve it ,for an example they talked about the size of the font that I used and next time I should make the font bigger and more clearer, they said the ways I could do this is by printing the front cover out to see what It would look like close up as a magazine with this help I will take into account the feedback when im doing my next task. I think next time when I have to start making my music magazine, I have to do more reasearch before hand and spot out the key aspects that magazines use to drew in their target audience with this help I could make my magazine look even more professional. I also feel in my Christmas holiday I should do reasearch on the computer or even reading a magazine and just get the main details that the magazine uses.

This week in media:7th December

What did we do in this week's lesson:
This week in media I had to finish off and improve my post 16 news magazine front and contents page. I had to make any last minute improvements to it, add any extra things that I felt I need to improve in order to get the best possible magazine.
Why was this lesson helpful?
I felt this lesson was helpful because this was the last lesson to make the magazine the best it can be because it was the last chance I would get before I had to present to my class and give them feedback on what I did and why I did it.
The improvements made:
The improvements that I actually made to my magazine was how the writing was laid out on the contents page and what colour it would have around the writing. I also change the background colour to navy blue as I wanted to firstly make it more 'Harris Academy Beckenham' theme and as well make it match the front cover more as I wasn't quite happy with the link between the two as I felt they was too different.

Post 16 Magazine

What I had to do this week:
This week in media, I had to start making my own magazine front page and contents page for Harris Academy Beckenham sixth form. Firstly I had to take my own photos for the magazine and make up a name for the magazine, Then I had to use what I learn in class in In-Design and ideas from other professional magazines to make my own one.
The colours I used I tried and match the HABE theme which is red and blue as well I used white.

The problems:
The problems that I occurred during this task were the program that I had to use to make this magazine. The problems I had with In-Design is knowing where the tools were and what each one does and how it can make my magazine better. The other problems I had was trying to get the right blend with the type of writing and the images that I took with the colour that I was going to use for the background and the writing

The front Page;my first attempt:

The Contents Page:
As well as making my front cover for the magazine I also made a contents page for it. On this you will see  pictures that I took as well as information of all the topics that's going to be on each page. Again I tried to keep to the same colours that I used which was blue, red and white.

The problems with creating the contents page:
The problems that I had with creating the contents page was the layout of the page, as I struggled to know where I should put the information and what sort of style it should be, as well as the colours being used on the page as I wanted to link it to my front page. I also had problems with what images that I should use as I wanted to refer back to what my actual magazine is about and trying to fill up the space that I had lefted

This Week in Media

This week in media:
This week week in media I had to do a preleminary task which I have been learning to use in-design as I need to develop my skills on the software in order to complete media coursework . I had to create a school magazine for Harris Academy Beckenham which i decided to do my magazine on Art at the school.
I had to learn to use and understand how all the different tools on In-design are used and why they are used to make a magazine front cover. I got learned this by my teacher Ms Norville as well as Mr Wallis who has pasted experience in working on in-design

What I learned?
The things that I learned this week as a result of doing this task is using the program In-Design where I learned the different effects that can be used on In-Design and what can be used best when creating the magazine like the colours with the background.

My first attempt can be seen below:

Making my own magazine 'Read Me'

The magazine that we did in a group, we had to do research on a female magazine and then make up our own type of magazine and it had to be called 'Read Me' We had to try and use what we learned in class to appeal to the target audience that we was given and the whole point in this task we to see what we learned and what we already knew as well as trying to get used to the new software that we going to have to use which is In-Design.

What I learned:
This week I learned more about the layout of a magazine and how much it can affect the target audience. I learned that certain colours used can influence the audience to buy it as it draws them in. This week we had to create a magzine for girls, So we had to think about what we learned in class and what we already knew and also the examples to create a girls magazine called 'Read Me'.

As you can see we used colours like purple, pink and white as well as using female celebrities to try and draw in the audience as they may want to see the lastest gossip on theses female celebrities and we also use the lastest program happening at the time which was 'Towie' . We mad a descision as a group to use these colours because we felt as a group it be the best colours to draw in the target audience that we was aiming for.

Media Studies Homework

Vibe Magazine cover:
1. The target audience for this magazine is for males ages between 18-40 who like certain kind of music, the music for this magazine is rap. The Institution that publishes the magazine is a company called VIBE from America and has been publishing theses magazines since 1993.

2. The purpose of this magazine is to inform readers of whats happening in the music industry and shows what certain singers are up too and what new songs are out. Also the purpose is too appeal to the target audience.

3. The target audience is Male's between around about 18-40 years old who like this type of music. We know this because of the colours being used on the front cover and as well as the type of music being shown on the front cover,as well as the picture of the famous singer shows this.

4. The front cover can appeal to the target audience in many different ways for an example a music icon image is used to gain the audience, they do this by putting a well known singer big on the front cover, so therefore the audience will know straight away what type of music magazine it is. The magazine is being communicated to people who like rap sort of music and the singers who sing it for an example Eminem, Jay-Z and so on.

VIBE Contents Page

5. The contents page gives extra information to the target audience as it shows what other singers are doing and what their latest albums are. They also use a survey on the front cover saying "who do you think the best rapper is?" so this brings in the target audience as they can use their opinion.
The contents page shows different things than what the front cover shows, so this brings different something different to the target audience, For an example it uses a another rapper and talks about the different features other than rap music,Furthermore they use a fashion page which draws in different audience as they may what to know what the latest fashion is in the music world.

6. The values of this magazine is that it's showing sort of an American dream as a poor white male has become a famous first white rapper. The cross necklace is showing that the rapper is from a Christianity background.

7. I think that the magazine is affected to the target audience because the magazine uses different techniques to meet and affect the target audience, for an example the colours being used is more for males like red and black so mainly dark sort of colours, this emphasis that the magazine is for males other than females. Other ways that the magazine reaches it's target audience is the images that has been used as well as words used on the front cover. The magazine has to link and appeal to the target audience otherwise the magazine wouldn't sell.

8. I have learned that the magazines is influenced by the target audience as they have to make it suitable to the audience in order to sell. They edit the colours and fonts and so on in order to reach out the the target audience.

9. I can use this in my coursework by using some of 'VIBE' styles to do my own music magazine, and also look out they reach out to the target audience by adapting their colouring, fonts and images. And also understand why they do this.
